Eid vacation to begin in all public, private universities from tomorrow

DHAKA, March 8, 2026 (BSS) –The government has ordered to close all the public and private universities across the country from tomorrow (Monday) in an attempt to maintain austerity of power and energy at the national level facing the ongoing global crisis.

The holiday will be effective in accordance to the scheduled date of the academic calendar of the Eid-ul Fitr.  

The announcement came in an order signed by assistant secretary of the ministry Sultan Ahmed, issued from the secondary and higher secondary division of the Education Ministry here today. Some instructions also have been given in the office order on power saving.

The ministry has asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to implement the order as soon as possible.

All the public and private universities across the country will remain close according to the university’s academic calendar marking the holy Ramadan and Eid-ul Fitr, said the order.

At the same time, the ministry also has requested to implement the 11-point directives at the universities aiming to ensure power and energy saving and responsible attitude in the universities.

The instructions are avoiding electricity light during the day time, make 50 percent use of the electricity, keep unnecessary light, fan and air conditioner switch off during the office time,  keep air condition temperature at 25 degree Celsius and above, the electricity appliances will be kept off during leaving the office room, unnecessary light will be kept switched off at corridor, stair house and wash room, 

Increase the using of power saving equipments in phases, all the office equipments like computer, printer and scanner must be keep switched off after the office time, any type of decorative lighting should be avoided  completely, keep the use of official vehicle in a limit and maintain extreme savings in using energy.

The decision has been taken considering the present global situation.
