DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - The authorities concerned have formed a five-member probe body to investigate the deadly fire at a tin-shed gas lighter factory in the Kadamtali Gol Chattar area of Keraniganj that claimed at least five lives.

The committee has been constituted with the Director (Operations and Maintenance) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence as its head.

It has been instructed to submit its report within seven working days.

The decision to form the probe body comes in the wake of the tragic incident, as officials seek to determine the exact cause of the fire, assess the extent of damage, and identify any lapses in safety measures.

Earlier, the fire broke out around 1:11 pm today and was brought under control at approximately 4:44 pm after seven firefighting units worked at the scene.

So far, five bodies have been recovered, while search operations are still ongoing to locate any missing persons.

Authorities said further actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation committee.
