DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - Eight platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order ahead of the Bogura-6 (Sadar) by-election scheduled for April 9.

The deployment follows directives from the Bangladesh Election Commission to ensure a free, fair and peaceful poll. BGB personnel will remain on duty until April 11, covering the pre-election, polling day and post-election periods.

Members from Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB) and Patnitala Battalion (14 BGB) have set up three base camps in Bogra Sadar Upazila and have begun operations. They will serve as both mobile and static forces, conducting patrols and maintaining security across the constituency.

BGB officials said the force will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to support civil authorities in maintaining stability throughout the electoral process. Authorities expressed confidence that voters will be able to cast their ballots without disruption.

The by-election was triggered after Tarique Rahman vacated the Bogra-6 seat. He had won both Bogra-6 and Dhaka-17 in the 13th national parliament election held on February 12, retaining Dhaka-17.
