DHAKA, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - The death toll from the devastating fire at a tin-shed gas lighter factory in the Kadamtali Gol Chattar area of Keraniganj has risen to six after rescuers recovered one more body, authorities confirmed.

At least two people were also reported injured in the incident, while search operations continued amid fears that more victims could be trapped.

The fire broke out at around 1:11 pm and was brought under control at approximately 4:44 pm after seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence worked relentlessly at the scene.

In response to the tragedy, authorities have formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the cause of the fire and assess any lapses in safety measures.

The committee, headed by the Director (Operations and Maintenance) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, has been asked to submit its report within seven working days.

Officials said the investigation will determine the exact cause of the blaze, evaluate the extent of the damage and recommend necessary actions to prevent such incidents in the future.

Further steps will be taken based on the findings of the probe committee, authorities added.
