
MYMENSINGH, April 4, 2026 (BSS) – State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yeaser Khan Choudhury today said the government is committed to implementing its election pledges by ensuring transparency and quality in development works.
“Although many projects were undertaken in the past in the name of development, in many cases the work remained incomplete. We are committed to completing projects with quality and ensuring a corruption-free process,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks after laying the foundation stone of the Mymensingh Divisional Information Complex this afternoon at Shikarikanda Chhatrapur area beside the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on the acquired land for the complex.
Yeaser Khan said the government has taken a plan to build 64 information complexes in 64 districts across the country, adding that construction work has already begun in 26 districts, including divisional cities.
“This is my first inauguration programme. Within the next few weeks, construction of four more buildings will be inaugurated. Subject to necessary approvals, initiatives will also be taken to build information complexes at the upazila level in phases,” he added.
The state minister urged the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated time maintaining quality.
Addressing media representatives, state minister for Information said said the government believes in press freedom but stressed that journalists must remain cautious to prevent the spread of misinformation.
“While ensuring the free flow of information, it must also be ensured that false or fabricated information does not turn into news,” he said.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Mahbuba Farjana, Bangladesh Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AKM Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Additional Divisional Commissioner John Kennedy Jambill, Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman, Additional Chief Engineer of Mymensingh Public Works Zone Mohammad Monirul Islam and Project Director Md Moniruzzaman were present as special guests at the inaugural ceremony with Department of Mass Communication Director General Md Abdul Jalil in the chair.
According to project sources, a contract has been signed with the contractor for construction of the seven-storey divisional information complex building at a cost of about Tk 19.30 crore with a duration of 18 months. The construction formally began today with the laying of foundation stone.
The proposed complex will include a modern cineplex, internet and cyber cafe, information desk kiosk, digital archive, digital lab and other ICT facilities, making it a modern information hub. It is also expected to contribute to the development of healthy culture and the film industry through screening of quality films.
Speakers at the programme said the complex will play an important role in disseminating national history, heritage, the Liberation War, and the rich legacy of various movements and struggles to the general people.
In line with the government’s election manifesto, such projects are being implemented with special emphasis on the ICT sector to ensure services for citizens, students, freelancers, IT entrepreneurs and businesspeople, and to create technology-based employment opportunities.
Project officials said the ICT facilities will help identify rumours and fake news using fact-checking tools and ensure dissemination of reliable information.
The complex will also serve as a hub for information exchange among government and private media, local press clubs and community radio, contributing to public empowerment.
