
DHAKA, Apr 4, 2026 (BSS) - The Traffic Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today imposed fines totalling Tk 370,500 and sentenced 13 individuals to various jail terms during a coordinated eviction drive across the city.
The day-long drive targeted illegal occupation of footpaths and roads, resulting in fines, seizure of goods and legal action against violators.
According to sources from the Traffic Lalbagh Division, operations in Kotwali Traffic Zone areas including North-South Road, Bangshal, and Nayabazar led to fines of Tk 7,000 on four establishments and one individual.
One person was arrested and cases were filed under the Road Transport Act 2018.
The accused is being processed for court proceedings.
In the Traffic Wari Division, a special drive from Golapbagh intersection to Dhalpur in Jatrabari resulted in the eviction of illegal roadside shops.
Sixteen traders were fined a total of Tk 31,500, while others were warned.
Meanwhile, in the Traffic Ramna Division, an eviction drive from Panthapath to Green Road aimed at clearing footpaths encroachments.
Authorities filed 35 video cases and four on-the-spot cases against illegally parked motorcycles.
A mobile court fined offenders Tk 62,000 and arrested one person.
In the Traffic Mirpur Division, drives in areas such as Sony Square Eidgah Maidan, Rainkhola and Zoo Road resulted in fines of Tk 67,000 imposed on four shops.
One individual was arrested, four gave written undertakings, and multiple cases were filed.
The Traffic Motijheel Division conducted operations from Malibagh Railgate to Rampura Bridge, fining 30 shops Tk 146,000 and issuing warnings to others.
Similarly, the Traffic Tejgaon Division carried out drives in Town Hall, Mohammadpur Bus Stand and Bosila areas, removing illegally placed goods and fining three shops Tk 5,000.
In the Traffic Gulshan Division, nine shops near Mohakhali Kitchen Market were fined Tk 47,000 for illegally occupying footpaths.
The Traffic Uttara Division conducted drives against 50 illegally established shops, arresting 10 individuals and fining one Tk 5,000, while warning others.
DMP officials said such coordinated eviction drives will continue to ensure smooth public movement and maintain discipline on city roads.
