Another accused in Rangpur double murder case arrested

RANGPUR, March 13, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested another accused in the double murder case of Taraganj police station in Rangpur from Fakirpara village under the same police station on Thursday midnight.
 
The arrestee was identified as Majidul Islam, 24, son of Altaf Hossain of village Fakirpara under Taraganj police station of Rangpur district, a press release said here tonight.
 
Victim Ruplal Rabidas, 40, of Ghonirampur village in Taraganj upazila and his nephew-in-law Pradeep Lal, 45, of village Baluabhata in Mithapukur upazila were travelling from Mithapukur upazila to Taraganj upazila in Rangpur on August 9, 2025 at night. 
 
On their way, some people questioned the victims at 8.30 pm on Burirhat Bottola intersection under Taraganj police station. 
 
At one stage of the interrogation, the agitated mob took the two victims to the Burirhat High School grounds on at 9 pm and beat them up with sticks and iron rods, resulting in serious injuries to the two victims. 
 
Victim Ruplal Rabidas died on the spot and his nephew-in-law Pradeep Lal succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at 4 am on August 10, 2025.
 
In the incident, victim Ruplal's wife Bharoti Rani filed a murder case with the Taraganj police station in Rangpur on August 10, 2025.
 
Considering the importance of the incident, RAB-13, along with other law enforcement agencies, initiated intelligence activities to arrest the accused in this case.
 
On a tip off, a smart team of RAB-13 of Rangpur Sadar Company conducted a raid on Thursday midnight and arrested Majidul Islam, the accused in the case, from Fakirpara village under Taraganj police station in Rangpur.
 
The arrested accused has been handed over to Taraganj police station in Rangpur for further legal action.
