He said this while addressing a views-exchange meeting with transport workers and owners at the Gulistan Natya Mancha open ground in the capital today.
The meeting was organised by transport owners and workers of the Gulistan and Fulbaria bus terminals to ensure smooth, safe, Eid travel.

To ensure passenger safety, law enforcement agencies, transport-related institutions and workers’ organisations have been instructed to work in a coordinated manner, he added.

He said special monitoring would be strengthened in bus terminals, highways and important points to ensure safe journeys of the passengers. He asked the concerned authorities to take a strict stance against the unfit vehicles.

Shimul Biswas said transport owners and workers were instructed to avoid reckless driving, over speed, and follow traffic rules and take adequate rest. They were asked to give special emphasis on ensuring the safety of women passengers, children and the elderly people, he added.

He said the government, law enforcement agencies, transport owners and workers and all concerned must work together so that Eid travel does not become a cause of suffering for people.
