Legal aid services reach to 5.55 lakh people so far

DHAKA, Mar 13, 2026 (BSS)- A total of 5,55,908 people have received legal aid services at government expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) under the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The information was revealed in a report published on the website of the National Legal Aid Services Organization. 

The report highlighted detailed statistics on legal assistance provided through Legal Aid from 2009 to January 2026.

According to the report, legal assistance was provided in 5,55,908 cases to financially insolvent and underprivileged justice seekers during this period.

It said that under the organization, legal assistance at government expense was provided to 27,010 people through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, to 307,009 people through Legal Aid Offices in 64 districts across the country, and to 22,083 people through the Labour Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

In addition, 1,99,806 people received legal aid services through the national legal aid helpline call centre (toll-free number 16699).

Legal aid services are provided at government expenses under the ‘Legal Aid Services Act’ to ensure legal assistance for financially insolvent and helpless justice seekers.
