KHULNA, Mar 14, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard has strengthened security measures on river routes in the country's southwestern region to ensure safe and smooth passenger movement ahead of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan disclosed the information today.

Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr,, the Coast Guard West Zone has taken special security measures at several important launch, ferry and boat terminals in Khulna and adjoining districts.

The measures are being implemented at key points including Rupsha and Koyra in Khulna district, Nalian, Mongla and Sharankhola in Bagerhat district, and Koikhali in Satkhira district.

As part of the special arrangements, Coast Guard personnel are conducting increased patrols, carrying out awareness campaigns through public announcements, distributing leaflets among passengers and checking suspicious individuals and boats. They are also scanning passengers' bags and conducting searches on vessels to prevent untoward incidents.

The media officer said Coast Guard personnel remain alert to prevent any sabotage during the Eid travel period. The force continues round-the-clock patrols and operations to ensure safe river journeys and maintain overall security in coastal and riverine areas.

Since its inception, the Coast Guard has regularly conducted joint drives and special operations to prevent illegal activities along waterways.
