RANGPUR, March 14, 2026 (BSS) - With less than a week left for Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the largest religious festivals of Muslims, people are flocking to shopping centers in Rangpur every day to buy lifestyle items, and record sales are being seen.
Leaders of the Rangpur Chamber and various business organizations of large shopping malls, markets, complexes and temporary markets said that Eid shopping has already reached its peak this year amid tight security measures by law enforcement agencies.
"Ahead of Eid, shoppers are flocking to the market day and night to buy their essential items, so as to avoid the last-minute unbearable rush," said Emdadul Hossain Emdad, president of the Rangpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Traders are expressing joy over the huge sales of Eid items.
He also said that due to increasing income and continuous improvement in the socio-economic condition of the people, people are flocking to the markets and buying clothes.
Meanwhile, while wealthy shoppers are flocking to elite markets, shopping malls and centers, lower-income and middle-class people are flocking to ordinary markets and sidewalk shops as shopping interest has reached its peak in the city.
Many floating hawkers and seasonal traders are selling various types of clothes in their mobile rickshaw-vans.
On both sides of the road from the Grand Hotel intersection to the Town Hall premises, hawkers have arranged stalls of various types of clothes including dresses, sandals, shoes, pants-shirts, three-pieces, sarees, lungis, punjabis, children's clothes, hats, and perfumes.
Not only on that road, but also in the footpath-centric shops in various areas of the city including Shapla Square, Grand Hotel, Supermarket and Medical Mour, Hareepatti Road, Badarganj Road, CO Bazar and Station Road, there is a huge sale of Eid items.
Most of the buyers of these footpath and make-up shops are lower and lower middle class and working class people.
Currently, the colourfully decorated aristocrat shopping places have worn festive looks across the city.
Despite the high prices this year and the severe traffic congestion in the city, hundreds of men, women, teenagers, boys, students, and young men are flocking to the market to buy their favorite Eid items.
Police control room sources said, "Ample members of law enforcement agencies have been deployed to strengthen security measures for smooth marketing of buyers, as well as special traffic arrangements have been introduced in the city."
According to buyers and market sources, the prices of children's, infant, men's and women's clothing are about 15 to 25 percent higher this year compared to last year.
However, the increased prices will not have any impact on the sales of Eid items.
Thousands of people are flocking to the RAMC Market, Royalty Mega Mall, Rangpur Super Market, 'Rangan', Golden Tower, Zilla Parishad Shopping Mall, Shah Amanat Market, Jahaz Company Shopping Complex, Maya Exclusive Fashion House, 'Karupannya', City Plaza, Moti Plaza, Honumantola Market, Adi Janata, Bismillah Garments, Medina Garments and other elite markets and shopping malls in the city.
