Turmeric seeds, fertilizer distributed among farmers in Sherpur

SHERPUR, March 15, 2026 (BSS) - Free turmeric seeds and chemical fertilizers were distributed among small and marginal farmers in Sadar upazila under the Agricultural Incentive Programme for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The distribution programme was formally inaugurated at 2:00 pm on Sunday by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahbuba Haque at the upazila parishad premises. The event was organized by the Sadar Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Muslima Khanam Nilu, Agricultural Extension Officer Md. Nizam Uddin, and deputy assistant agricultural officers from various blocks of the municipality and Sadar Upazila were present at the event.

Under the programme, a total of 100 kilograms of turmeric seeds were distributed among 20 selected small and marginal farmers from 14 unions and one municipality of Sadar upazila. Each farmer received 5 kilograms of MOP and 5 kilograms of DAP chemical fertilizers.

Speaking at the programme, Agriculture Officer Muslima Khanam Nilu said the incentive programme aims to encourage marginal farmers to cultivate turmeric and boost its production in the area. She added that turmeric cultivation can help farmers gain economic benefits and improve their livelihoods.
