DHAKA, March 15, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has launched a special cleanliness and mosquito control drive in the Shyampur area of the capital as part of its month-long programme.
DSCC Administrator and freedom fighter Md. Abdus Salam inaugurated the drive this afternoon.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he said the city corporation is committed to building a clean, safe and livable city for residents.
He also said various initiatives have been taken to make the city's waste management and street-lighting systems fully effective. At the same time, there is a plan to form a coordinated board involving citizens to make the tax collection process of the city corporation more transparent and citizen-friendly.
"Through this initiative, tax assessment and collection activities are expected to be carried out more effectively", he added.
The DSCC administrator further said all urban development works must be completed within the stipulated time while ensuring quality standards. He also directed the authorities concerned to implement projects responsibly instead of handing them over to others.
Responding to local demands, he assured that a gymnasium and a library would be constructed in the Shyampur area.
About two hundred sanitation workers participated in the special drive conducted in Shyampur. During the operation, accumulated waste was removed from drains and footpaths in the area. Special insecticide was also sprayed to control mosquitoes.
Besides, an awareness rally was held to encourage local residents to maintain cleanliness and follow health guidelines.
DSCC is implementing a month-long special cleanliness and mosquito control programme across the city to strengthen sanitation activities and prevent mosquito-borne diseases. Similar drives are being conducted in different areas of the capital as part of the programme.
