JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, March 15, 2026 (BSS) - A female student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) was found dead today at her rented residence in the Islamnagar area adjacent to the university campus.

The deceased was identified as Sharmin Jahan Khadija, a student of the Department of Public Administration from the 2021-22 academic session of the university.

Witnesses said she was found lying on the floor in a bloodied condition with visible injury marks on her head.

It is learnt that Sharmin's husband Fahim returned home between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm and found the front door locked from outside.

After entering the house through the back door with the assistance of the landlord, he found Sharmin lying unconscious on the floor with injuries on different parts of her body.

She was later taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar where the on-duty doctors declared her dead.

Fahim said they were supposed to travel to Dhaka in the morning to buy a mobile phone together, but he went alone as Sharmin was feeling unwell due to low blood pressure.

He added that he tried to contact her several times through messages from Dhaka but received no response. Later, Sharmin's mother also called him after failing to reach her.

He further claimed that Sharmin's mobile phone and laptop were missing from the house and their packed luggage was found scattered inside the room.

JU Proctor Professor Dr AKM Rashidul Alam said, "The body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy."

He added that the university administration requested the law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and take necessary action.

Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station Rubel Hawlader said, "Police are at the scene and officials from the Detective Branch (DB) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been asked to assist in the investigation."
