VGF rice distribution begins in Bagerhat ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

BAGERHAT, March 16, 2026 (BSS) - The distribution of rice under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme has begun in Kachua upazila of Bagerhat district to support extremely poor, helpless and distressed families on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The distribution programme was formally inaugurated on Sunday morning at the premises of Kachua Sadar Union Parishad.

Kachua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Ali Hasan inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.

Among others present at the event were Upazila Social Service Officer Hasibur Rahman, Sadar Union Parishad Administrator and Upazila Public Health Engineering Officer Md. Raihan Hossain, Union Parishad Secretary and the concerned officers.

A total of 52.480 metric tons of rice will be distributed free of cost among 5,248 beneficiaries across Kachua upazila through VGF cards issued in the respective unions ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Speaking at the event, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Ali Hasan said the government has taken this initiative to ensure that the joy of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr reaches the poorest sections of society.

"The government is providing this special food assistance so that everyone can share the joy of Eid. The administration is maintaining strict supervision to ensure that the truly needy and helpless people receive this support," he added.
