RHD launches tree plantation drive in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, April 1, 2026 (BSS) - The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) today launched a tree plantation programme in Gaibandha district as part of a nationwide initiative to protect environmental balance.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Masudur Rahman Mollah inaugurated the programme by planting saplings at Tengorjan area on the Gaibandha-Palashbari regional highway under Sadar upazila at noon.

Executive Engineer of RHD Piyash Kumar Sen, Sub-Divisional Engineer Motahar Hossain, Additional Superintendent of Police Bidroho Kumar Kundu and other officials were present.

Speaking to BSS, Piyash Kumar Sen said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has undertaken a plan to plant 25 crore saplings across the country to maintain ecological balance.

As part of the initiative, the department has begun planting trees along roadsides in the district, he added.
