CHATTOGRAM, April 1, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) today conducted a drive to remove illegal billboards, banners and posters in the Chawkbazar area of the city, aiming to restore order and improve urban aesthetics.
Led by City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, the drive began at the Walikhan Mosque intersection this morning. During the operation, illegal billboards, banners and posters displayed on roads and various establishments were removed.
In a notable move, the mayor personally removed several banners bearing his own images, which drew positive reactions from the public and highlighted the principle that the law applies equally to all.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shahadat said no illegal billboards or banners would be tolerated, emphasizing that such drives would continue to ensure a clean and well-managed urban environment.
During the campaign, shop owners were also warned against occupying sidewalks by placing goods outside their premises. The mayor inspected several establishments and instructed owners to keep sidewalks clear for pedestrians.
He said pedestrian movement must not be obstructed under any circumstances and warned of strict action against violations.
Local businessman Nur Kalam welcomed the initiative, noting that illegal banners, posters and sidewalk encroachment had long been causing inconvenience to the public in the area. He urged the authorities to continue such drives regularly.
CCC officials said the campaign would be intensified on key roads and in busy areas to remove illegal structures and ensure unobstructed sidewalks, as part of efforts to create a clean, safe and livable city.
