KHULNA, April 3, 2026 (BSS) - Police have identified and seized a private car that was allegedly involved in the death of a student of Khulna University (KU), who was run over earlier this week but the driver has remained at large.

Additional Police Commissioner of Khulna, Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, confirmed the matter this afternoon.

He said that a wheel rim cover was recovered from the scene immediately after the accident.

Alongside this, analysis of CCTV footage helped the law enforcers to identify the blue-colored private car. The vehicle has since been seized and kept in police custody.

However, efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the absconding driver.

Meanwhile, protesting the incident, general students of KU boycotted classes on Thursday and staged demonstrations, including laying siege to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

They issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate arrest and justice. They also submitted a memorandum to the authorities concerned.

The university administration has also filed a case in connection with the incident, seeking the highest punishment for the accused driver.

It may be mentioned that on Monday evening, Moumita Halder, a Master s student of the Law Discipline at Khulna University, was killed after being hit by a private car in front of the district council building in Khulna city.
