DINAJPUR, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - A young man in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur has achieved financial self-reliance through goat farming, becoming an example for other unemployed youths in the area.
Shibli Noman, 32, from South Basudebpur village, started rearing goats five years ago on a small scale with just four animals as a hobby. Over time, after noticing steady profits, he expanded his venture into a commercial farm.
He now owns around 120 goats of both local and foreign breeds, with an estimated market value of about Taka 25 lakh.
Noman said goat farming is a low-cost and profitable business, as goats reproduce twice a year and require comparatively less maintenance than cattle. To reduce feed costs and ensure nutrition, he also cultivates hydroponic grass near his home as fodder for the animals.
He is hopeful of earning around Taka 4-5 lakh by selling about 25 goats ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha season.
Officials from the local Department of Livestock Services told BSS that Noman's success has encouraged many unemployed youths in the area to start goat farming.
They added that necessary technical support and training are being provided to expand such small-scale livestock enterprises in the region.
