Woman killed in Gopalganj road accident

GOPALGANJ, May 16, 2026 (BSS) - A woman was killed in a road accident in Tungipara upazila of the district this morning when  a motorcycle collided head-on with a covered van.

The deceased was identified as Seema Sarkar, 40, wife of Sabuj Sarkar, a resident of Nailtala village under Nazirpur upazila in Pirojpur district.

The accident occurred around 9.30 am in Joaria Bazar area under Gopalpur union when a motorcycle collided head-on with a goods-laden covered van, leaving bike riders Seema Sarker and her brother-in-law Manik Sarker injured.

The injured were taken to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex where Seema succumbed to her injuries.

Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara Police Station Ayub Ali confirmed the incident and said police arrested the covered van driver, identified as Shamim Sheikh, soon after the accident.

“The body will be handed over to the victim’s family after completing the necessary legal procedures,” the police official said.
