One sentenced to life in Ctg drug case

CHATTOGRAM, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - A court here has sentenced Md. Zafar to life imprisonment in a drug case at Akbarshah Police Station.
 
Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Afroza Jasmine Koli delivered the verdict on Sunday. Md. Zafar, 53,  son of Md. Hashem from Jatrabari Police Station in Dhaka district, was found guilty of possessing Phensedyl based on the testimony of five witnesses.
 
In addition to the life sentence, he was fined Tk 10,000 and in default he will suffer an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment.
 
The accused was not present in court and an arrest warrant has been issued against him based on the original sentence warrant.
 
The case file states that in the afternoon on March 12, 2018, RAB-7 conducted a raid in the East Feroz Shah Colony area of Akbar Shah Police Station in the city. During the raid, 1,199 bottles of Phensedyl were found in a white private car. Subsequently, the then police inspector of RAB-7, Amal Chanda, filed a case with Akbar Shah Police Station. Following an investigation, the court issued a charge sheet and ordered the trial to commence.
