Man gets life term for possessing 28,000 yaba tablets

DHAKA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted a drug peddler and 
sentenced him to life imprisonment in a case lodged over the recovery of 
28,000 yaba tablets from the Motijheel area in 2025.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Sabbir Faiz pronounced the judgment, 
sentencing Md Nazim Uddin to life imprisonment.

According to the case documents, acting on a tip-off, a team of law enforcers 
stopped a bus coming from Cox's Bazar in the Motijheel area at around 8:30 am 
on July 3, 2025, and detained Nazim. They searched his belongings and 
recovered the yaba tablets stashed in 140 polythene packets hidden inside his 
bag.

Inspector Tamij Uddin of the Department of Narcotics Control filed the case 
with Motijheel Police Station in this connection. A charge sheet was 
submitted on October 30, 2025, while the court framed charges on March 29, 
2026.

A total of six witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates.
