BNP-backed Blue Panel sweeps SCBA election

DHAKA, May 15, 2026 (BSS) - The BNP-backed Blue Panel achieved a landslide victory in the election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (BCBA) for the 2026-27 term, securing 13 out of 14 executive committee posts, including the key positions of President and Secretary.

Following two days of voting, the results were announced at around 2 am on Thursday at the SCBA auditorium after vote counting through a digital tabulation system.

 The announcement was made by the election sub-committee convener, retired Justice Md Miftah Uddin Chowdhury.

Barrister A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon (MP) was elected President, while Mohammad Ali won the post of Secretary from the Blue Panel.

Other winners from the Blue Panel are Md. Magfur Rahman Sheikh and Md. Shahjahan as Vice-Presidents, Mohammad Ali as Secretary, Md. Ziaur Rahman as Treasurer, Maksud Ullah and Mohammad Shamsul Islam Mukul as Assistant Secretaries, and executive members H.M. Sanjid Siddiqui, A.K.M. Azad Hossain, Wahid Afroz Chowdhury, Md. Kabir Hossain, Md. Zia Uddin Mia, and Md. Tipu Sultan.

The Jamaat-e-Islami-backed Green Panel secured one executive member post through Azim Uddin Patwari.

The election was held on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 5 pm each day, with a one-hour recess.

 Of the total 4,048 votes cast, 1,771 were polled on the first day and 2,277 on the second day. 

A total of 40 candidates contested for the 14 executive committee posts.
