Canal excavation will bring positive changes to rural economy: Asadul Habib

CHANDPUR, May 15, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu today said the canal excavation programme will have a positive impact on the rural economy.

“Canal water will be used for irrigation facilities, drainage systems will be improved to remove waterlogging, tree saplings will be planted along canal banks, and fish farming in the canals will bring desired positive changes to the country’s socio-economic development,” he said.

He said this while visiting the Khordo canal in Shahrasti upazila in the district.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Chandpur tomorrow and officially inaugurate the re-excavation work of Khordo canal during his daylong visit.  

Chandpur-5 lawmaker Mominul Haque and local government officials accompanied the minister during the visit.
