
CHATTOGRAM, May 15, 2026 (BSS) - Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram, Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, came forward to support measles-infected child, Jaya, after media reports on Thursday.
All outstanding hospital bills were waived, and the child was returned to her family today.
Sumon Jaldas, a resident of Kathgarh area in Chattogram, had been seeking treatment for his daughter, Jaya, for 20 days, moving from one hospital to another. When her condition worsened, she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in the GEC area of the city on April 30. Despite her recovery after extensive treatment, Sumon was unable to bring his daughter home due to unpaid bills.
On Friday morning, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Asian Specialized Hospital in the city's GEC area to check on Jaya Das, a child who had recovered after treatment. The hospital chairman, Lion Alhaj Salauddin Ali, and District Civil Surgeon Dr. Jahangir Alam were also present during the visit.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Zahidul Islam Miah mentioned that Jaya's parents were unable to pay the hospital bill due to their financial situation. After learning about this, he contacted the hospital authorities, who agreed to waive the outstanding bill of Tk 2,38,302 after discussions, DC said.
The hospital chairman, Salauddin Ali, expressed happiness in participating in this humanitarian initiative and praised the Deputy Commissioner's efforts in helping the family.
DC Md. Jahidul Islam Miah assured financial assistance for Jaya’s treatment and offered all-round support, including post-treatment assistance.
Suman Jaldas, Jaya's father, expressed gratitude for the support received from the District Administrator and the hospital. He mentioned that his daughter is now healthy, and he returned home with his family, he conveyed thanks for their well-being.
