CHTTOGRAM, May 15, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested 19 individuals for organizing a procession of banned Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organizations in the Jamiatul Falah National Mosque area in the city.

A case has been filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with this incident, as reported in a press release of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) today.

The procession took place after the Namaz-e-Janaza of former minister and freedom fighter Engineer Mosharraf Hossain on Thursday. The group of leaders and activists chanted anti-government slogans during the procession.

It was reported that the individuals were carrying sticks, bricks, and stones at the time. Police stated that SI Sharif Uddin from Kotwali Police Station informed higher officials about the incident while on duty at the scene.

Subsequently, when the police arrived at the location, the participants in the procession attempted to flee through the alleys. During the operation, 15 bricks and eight wooden sticks were confiscated. Following undisclosed information, 19 leaders and activists were apprehended in various areas.

Police said some of the detainees have prior criminal records, including charges related to weapons possession, robbery planning, and kidnapping. Police alleged that during initial questioning, the arrested individuals disclosed their affiliation with banned organizations such as Chhatra League and Awami League.

They are accused of plotting against the state, organizing sabotage, funding and supporting terrorist activities.

A case filed against them with Kotwali Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009, and they have been remanded to court.
