Two held, huge arms and ammo seized in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 2, 2026 (BSS)- Police of the district today arrested two 
people and seized a consignment of firearms and ammunition being smuggled 
from the Chapainawabganj border area to Kushtia.
 
The operation, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police of Godagari Circle 
Mirza Abdus Salam, was carried out by a team from the Premtali Police 
Investigation Center this afternoon.

The arrested were identified as Dulal Sheikh, 36, a resident of Bottoli 
Charmatha village in Kushtia Sadar upazila and Sanjida Akter Shimu, 18, also 
hailed from the aforesaid area.

Acting on secret information, police conducted an operation in the 
Rajabarihat area of Godagari upazila of the district and arrested Dulal and 
Sanjida with the shipment of firearms and ammunition. 

At the time, a private car was impounded.

Police recovered two foreign-made pistols, four magazines and 53 rounds of 
bullets after searching the trunk of the private car.
 
Earlier, a checkpoint was set up at Rajabarihat on the Rajshahi-
Chapainawabganj highway at around 2 pm today after being informed, said SM 
Maksudur Rahman, in-charge of the Premtali Police Investigation Center.
 
Shortly before 4 pm, the suspected private car arrived at the checkpoint and 
the weapons, magazines, and bullets were recovered from inside the vehicle. 
The two occupants were taken into custody.
 
A case was filed with the concerned police station in this connection, he 
added.
