Thunderstorm kills 2 in Mymensingh

Mymensingh, June 4, 2026 (BSS) - Two people, including a college teacher, were killed after being struck by lightning in separate incidents in Mymensingh district today.

The deceased were identified as ASM Khalekul Azad, 56, a Math teacher of
Gabtoli Degree College under Muktagacha upazila, and Siam, 18, son of Rukun Uddin under Gafargaon upazila.

Locals and family members said the Khalekul Azad was supervising the construction work of a mosque in the Roghunathpur Rouhar Char Bazar area of Borogram union under Muktagacha Upazila. Suddenly, a thunderbolt struck him, leaving him critically injured. 

He was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

In another incident, Siam was struck by lightning while working in an agricultural field at Lamkain village in Gafargaon upazila.

Locals rushed him to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
