
GAZIPUR, June 4, 2026 (BSS) – Two people including an auto-rickshaw driver were killed after a bus hit an auto-rickshaw on the Bhogra Road in the Bason area of Gazipur Metropolitan City today.
The mangled auto-rickshaw became trapped under the bus and the bodies were recovered through a joint rescue operation conducted by the fire service and police.
The accident occurred this afternoon on the eastern side of Bismillah General Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in the Bhogra area along the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
One of the deceased was identified as Sujan, 38, a resident of Madarganj area in Jamalpur district.
The identity of the another dead could not be known immediately.
Police said the auto-rickshaw was carrying passengers towards the Bhogra Bypass. When the vehicle suddenly applied brake to pick up passengers on the way, a speeding bus of Binimoy Paribahan bumped it from behind.
The auto-rickshaw was crushed under the bus, killing the driver and one passenger on the spot.
On information, three units from the Modern Fire Service and Civil Defence Station at Gazipur Chowrasta rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation.
Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Station Mohammad Mamun said, "The rescue team reached the spot within minutes of receiving the news of the accident and bodies were handed over to the police after rescue."
He further said that after the rescue operation, normal traffic movement has been restored.
Officer-in-Charge of Bason Police Station Harun Or Rashid told BSS efforts were underway to identify the deceased. “The accident-hit bus has been seized and necessary legal procedures are being initiated in this connection” he added.
