NAOGAON, June 8, 2026 (BSS) - An elderly woman was killed after being struck by a pickup van while crossing a regional highway in Badalgachi upazila of the district on this morning.

The deceased was identified as Sahida Begum, 72, wife of Abu Bakkar Siddique, a resident of Bhandarpur Purbapara village under Kola union in the upazila.

The accident took place around 9.30 am on the Badalgachi-Akkelpur highway in Bhandarpur Bazar area when a speedy pickup van hit the woman while was attempting to cross the road, leaving her injured.

Locals rescued her and sent to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Badalgachi Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident. 

Police said further investigation into the accident is underway.
