CHUADANGA, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - The district administration on Wednesday seized 210 kilograms of government Open Market Sale (OMS) rice and 70 kilograms of flour during a mobile court operation in Jhenaidah Bus Stand Para area of the district town.
A government OMS dealer was fined Taka 50,000 for illegally selling the food grains outside the authorized distribution system.
The raid was conducted around 5:00 pm following a tip-off regarding the unauthorized sale of government food assistance products. A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Alauddin Al Azad recovered seven sacks of OMS rice and two sacks of flour from a van in the area.
The mobile court subsequently fined Sohel Ahmed Malik Sujan, 47, son of Shamsul Haque Malik and a resident of Jhenaidah Bus Stand Para, under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009. He was found guilty of illegally selling government-subsidized food products outside the approved distribution channels.
Executive Magistrate Alauddin Al Azad said that rice and flour distributed under government food assistance programmes cannot be sold or smuggled under any circumstances. He warned that drives against such irregularities would continue on a regular basis.
