CHATTOGRAM, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - City Mayor and President of the Hospital Management Committee Dr. Shahadat Hossain today said that he would take steps to transform Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) into a clean, orderly, secure, and broker-free health facility.

A dedicated cleaning initiative has commenced throughout the hospital to achieve this goal, said the Mayor launching the special cleaning initiative at CMCH today.

During his visit, he toured various sections of the hospital and emphasized several measures aimed at improving cleanliness, waste management, clearing sidewalks, regulating ambulance fares, and eradicating broker-dealers.

The Mayor inspected numerous shops within the hospital vicinity and provided guidance on effective waste management, including the placement of dustbins at each shop. Concurrently, chemicals were applied to the drains and sewers in the hospital area to eliminate mosquito larvae.

Dr. Shahadat Hossain expressed his desire to develop CMCH into a clean, healthy, and humane facility.

By addressing the long-standing chaos and irregularities, a service-oriented atmosphere will be created for the public, he said. About the ambulance fares, the Mayor said that previously, patients had reported being charged between eight to twelve thousand taka. A standardized fare list will be introduced to curb such disorder, he added.

He announced the removal of illegal encroachments and obstructions on the footpaths in the hospital area and said that the entire footpath from Wali Beg Khan Mosque to the medical staff quarters will be transformed into a safe and unobstructed pedestrian zone.

No street vendors, fruit sellers, or mobile vendors will be permitted to operate there, he said, adding that the area will undergo beautification, creating an aesthetically pleasing environment through the introduction of greenery and graffiti.

The Mayor indicated that 20 cleaning personnel from the Chattogram City Corporation and the hospital authority will be assigned to ensure the cleanliness programme is sustained around the clock.

He also noted that installation of a new deep tube well is underway.
