DHAKA, June 10, 2026 (BSS) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has arrested two individuals in connection with the kidnapping of a Malaysia expatriate's son and demanding a ransom of Tk 10 lakh.

The arrested individuals are Arifullah, 30, son of Md Shahidulla of Shafirkandi village under Bancharampur Police Station in Brahmanbaria, and Sunny, 22, son of Md Kamal Miah.

A team of CID's Dhaka Metro-North division conducted a raid in Shafirkandi village under Bancharampur Police Station yesterday and arrested them, said a CID press release today.

The victim, Manik, is the son of a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Malaysia for the past 4-5 years, who has been regularly sending money to support his family.

On January 11 this year, Manik received a phone call from an unknown number informing him that his father had sent Tk 50,000 from Malaysia. He was instructed to collect the money from the Jaynal Market area under South Khan Police Station.

When Manik arrived at the location, he was allegedly lured into a private car by a group of kidnappers and taken to a building in the Pallabi area of Mirpur.

There, he was confined, assaulted, and robbed of Tk 20,500 in cash and Tk 8,500 from his bKash account. Later, the kidnappers contacted his family and demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh, threatening to kill him if the demand was not met.
