3 members of visa fraud ring held with fake documents in Rangpur

RANGPUR, June 25, 2026 (BSS)  - The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) arrested three members of an organized visa fraud ring from the city's College Para area this afternoon.
 
The DB police also recovered 10 Bangladeshi original passports with fake Australian visas attached, two fake Australian passports, one SS metal table nameplate, four name tags for use on the nameplate, one fake ID card with the identity of Director Admin of Costa Group, Australia, two Panaflex banners with the name and logo of Costa Group, Australia, one laptop, four mobile phones, 30 sets of documents including fake offer letters, fake visa documents, money collection receipts, fake air tickets, which were stored in VFS envelopes. 
 
Under the direction of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud and under the supervision of Deputy Police Commissioner (DB) Sanatan Chakraborty, the DB Police in a special operation arrested the visa fraud ring members.
 
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DB) of RpMP Sanatan Chakraborty informed this to local journalists at a press briefing held at his Central Road office this afternoon.
 
The arrestees are Ruhanur Rahman, 23, of the Uttam Hazarihat area in Rangpur metropolis, Shafiq Islam, 31, of Khata Madhupur village under Saidpur upazila and Himel Islam, 22, of Ghonpara (Beltoli Bazar) village under Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari. 
 
During initial interrogation, the detainees said that they organized themselves to open fake pages on the social media platform Facebook in the name of Costa Group, Australia and advertise jobs abroad and provide Australian visas. 
 
They collected passports from interested people and attached fake visas to them and extorted a large amount of money, said police.
 
After contacting the owners of the recovered passports, it was learned that they had submitted the passports through various brokers and agents in the hope of obtaining Australian visas. 
 
Legal action was being taken against the detainees on charges of fraud and forgery and the process of filing a case at Tazhat Metropolitan police station of RpMP was underway.
