GAZIPUR, Aug 15, 2026 (BSS) - Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured when a passenger bus collided with a cattle-laden truck in Kaliakair upazila of the district today.

Five cattle on the truck died on the spot, while another four were slaughtered as they were in critical condition.

The accident occurred at around 5:30 pm today in the Goalbathan area of Kaliakair upazila on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway. 

Police could not immediately identify the deceased.

Police and eyewitnesses said a passenger bus of Shyamoli Paribahan collided with the cattle-laden truck on the Dhaka-bound Lane at around 5:30 pm. 

The front portion of the truck was completely mangled in the collision.

On information, Kaliakair Fire Service and police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of two people from inside the truck. Three injured people were rescued and sent to hospital.

Five cattle on the truck died on the spot following the accident.

As the condition of four other critically injured cattle deteriorated, locals slaughtered them.

Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sahidul Islam confirmed the accident and said the bus and truck involved in the accident had been seized. Highway Police took the bodies of the deceased away after recovering them.

He said efforts were underway to identify the deceased and investigate the cause of the accident.
