KHULNA, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Coast Guard has rescued 12 fishermen alive along with their fishing boat after its engine developed a mechanical fault, leaving them stranded in the deep sea near the Sundarbans.

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information this afternoon.

He said the fishing boat, FV Mayer Doa, carrying 12 fishermen, was fishing about 12 nautical miles south of Dublar Char in the Sundarbans when its engine suddenly became inoperative around 8pm on Sunday.

The boat remained adrift in the deep sea until it later came within mobile network coverage.

At around 6:30pm on Monday, one of the fishermen managed to contact the boat owner and informed him about their situation.

The owner called the Coast Guard emergency hotline 16111 and sought immediate assistance.

Acting on the information, Coast Guard Station Dubla promptly launched a rescue operation and located the disabled fishing boat in the deep sea.

All twelve fishermen were rescued alive along with the vessel.

The rescued fishermen were provided with primary medical treatment after the operation.

The process of handing them over to the boat owner along with the fishing vessel is underway.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the Coast Guard would continue such rescue operations in the future to ensure the safety of fishermen and others facing emergencies at sea.
