RANGPUR, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - On Tuesday night, the Detective Branch (DB) of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) detained three individuals on charges of drug consumption and trafficking during separate raids conducted in various parts of the city.

Under the overall guidance of RpMP Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rashid, the DB police arrested two persons for the offense of consuming ganja and one for possessing 13 pieces of Yaba tablets, an RpMP media cell press release said. 

On a tip-off, the DB conducted a raid at the Jamchora Market area under Haragachh police station of RpMP and arrested Saidul Islam alias Messi, 45, of the same area for the offense of consuming ganja at 9:40 pm on Tuesday. 

Subsequently, the DB police arrested Mohammd Mamun, 25, of the Sri Sri Anukul Thakur Temple area under Porshuram police station for the offense of consuming cannabis at 10:20 pm. 

In another raid, the DB police arrested Rabiul Islam, 28, of New Masterpara area with 13 pieces of Yaba tablets from the Bahar Kachna Dauyaitari Eidgah ground under Haragachh police station of the metropolis at 10:05 pm.

Necessary legal actions have been taken against the arrested individuals at the concerned police stations in accordance with existing laws.
