DHAKA, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) - Fact-checking organization Rumor Scanner has identified that an Indian video is being circulated on social media falsely claiming to show an extortion-related incident in Bangladesh.

The Rumor Scanner Fact-Check Investigation Team in a recent report said the viral video does not depict any incident of an imam being assaulted for delivering a sermon about extortion.

Rather, the footage is from a different incident that took place in India. The organization has identified the circulation of the video as a deliberate attempt to create confusion and misinformation.
