DHAKA, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS)—Bangladesh have been fined five percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Sri Lanka in their Women’s Asia Cup Group B match in Dubai on Sunday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed today.

Bangladesh eventually lost the game by four wickets after a wayward performance from their batters.

G.S. Lakshmi of the Emirates International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Nigar Sultana Joty’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, the ICC press release said.

“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the release stated. 

Nigar Sultana Joty pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Humaira Farah, third umpire Saleema Imtiaz and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan leveled the charge.
