DHAKA, March 1, 2026 (BSS) - Independent fact-checking organisation FactWatch has identified as baseless the claim that former anti-discrimination student movement leader Riad was arrested in a police murder case.

In a statement, FactWatch said the allegation circulating on social media regarding Riad's arrest in connection with a police killing is unfounded and aimed at creating confusion.

The FactWatch investigation team noted that the claim lacks credible evidence and appears to have been spread deliberately to mislead the public.

The organisation has been working to curb the spread of rumours and misinformation in the country by regularly verifying viral content and presenting accurate information.

FactWatch is an independent fact-checking body approved by the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and operated by the Center for Critical and Qualitative Studies (CQS).

Amid a recent rise in the spread of fake videos, misleading content and rumours on social media, FactWatch said it remains committed to countering misinformation through systematic verification and public awareness.
