DHAKA, Mar 5, 2026 (BSS) – BanglaFact, the Fact Check and Media Research Team of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), has identified a disinformation attempt spreading propaganda and confusion about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman through an AI-generated statement.

According to BanglaFact, a video is circulating on social media claiming that Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman commented, “At this difficult time for the country, Sheikh Hasina is needed again to reform the nation.”

However, BanglaFact’s verification found that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman never made such a remark. The statement in the circulated video was artificially created using artificial intelligence (AI).

Fact-checking organizations say that since the mass uprising of 2024, the tendency to spread various false information related to Bangladesh has increased, particularly from some Indian media outlets, social media accounts operated from India, and certain Facebook pages within the country.

Such misinformation is especially being spread targeting the interim government and the political parties and organizations that took part in the 2024 movement.

At the same time, attempts to create confusion by spreading rumors and false information on various recent issues have also been detected.

BanglaFact regularly verifies false and misleading information, presents verified facts, and conducts research on media and journalism.

The Bangladeshi fact-checking organization has identified hundreds of pieces of false information circulating on the internet and continues to play a role in preventing rumors, fake news and misinformation while delivering accurate information to the public.
