DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - Rumor Scanner, an independent fact-checking organisation, has confirmed that a viral photo showing a person spending the night at a petrol pump with a mosquito net was artificially generated.

The organisation confirmed the image is not real and was created using AI. The team identified efforts to circulate the photo with the intent to mislead the public.

Fact-checking organisations reported a rise in false information about Bangladesh circulating through media outlets, social media accounts, and some Facebook pages since the 2024 Mass Uprising.

Besides, attempts to spread rumours and misinformation targeting the BNP and the new government on recent issues are ongoing.
