DHAKA, April 6, 2026 (BSS) - BanglaFact, the fact-checking team of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has confirmed that a video widely shared on social media claiming to show a madrasah student being beaten in Narsingdi is actually from India.

The viral video claims to show a recent incident at Madrasatul Abrar Arabia in Bhelanagar Jail Khanar Mor area of Narsingdi, where teacher Nazmus Shakib allegedly beat a seven-year-old student, Mujahidul, for refusing to take a bath. Police have arrested Shakib in connection with the incident.

BanglaFact's verification found that the footage is from a madrasah in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, where a student was beaten. The video has been shared out of context to create confusion.

Fact-checking organisations have noted a rise in the spread of misinformation about Bangladesh on various social media platforms, both locally and from abroad, following the 2024 Mass Uprising.

BanglaFact, the PIB's dedicated fact-checking, media research and analysis unit, regularly verifies misleading information and works to counter disinformation online.
