DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS) – People in the neighbourhgood and officials concerned today confirmed the identity of farmer card recipient Md. Kabir Hossain as a real farmer while fact checker Rumor scanner found his viral social media pictures in stylish outfits to be AI generated.

Fact checking platform Rumor Scanner found several pictures where he is seen in different stylish outfits in various backgrounds at different parts of the world as generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

Officials engaged in investigating alongside fellow villagers reconfirmed that he was an actual farmer and hailed from sadar upazila of Tangail district.

A controversy arose about Hosssain’s identity as a farmer as several social media platforms questioned his identity as a farmer disseminating his AI generated pictures after he received the government-issued farmer’s card from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on April 14.

“Kabir Hossain is really a farmer having knowledge on IT as well as agriculture,” an official familiar with the investigation told BSS preferring anonymity.

He said Kabir’s IT knowledge prompted him to be a content creator and he himself posted some of those pictures on his Facebook account in 2025 while BSS found the account to have 28,000 followers.

Hossain received his Farmers Card on April 14 at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman distributed the cards among 15 farmers as part of a pilot programme.

A resident of North Tartia village under Gharinda Union in Tangail Sadar upazila, Hossain studied up to class eight and long been associated with agriculture though he temporarily migrated to Saudi Arabia and stayed there from 1994 to 2002.

Fellow farmers and residents in the neighbourhood said since then, Hossain was actively engaged in farming.

Local inquiries reveal that Hossain is not only involved in cultivation but is also a known figure in digital agricultural outreach while he is comparatively well-off due to his past employment abroad.

They said he regularly produces and shares farming-related content on social media to help others by sharing agricultural insights and modern practices but not known to have any political affiliation.
