NARAYANGANJ, June 17, 2025 (BSS)-Promising young cricketer Jishan Alam has represented Bangladesh in various youth levels including the Under-19 and Bangladesh A team, now dreams of wearing the national team jersey-fulfilling not only his own ambition but also that of his father.

The 20-year-old talent from Narayanganj was born in 2004 into a cricketing family. His father Jahangir Alam and uncle Jewel Hossain Mona were former national players, which inspired him to pursue the sport. Jishan is currently studying at Narayanganj College while continuing his cricketing journey.

Talking to BSS, Jishan said, "Since my childhood, I have dreamed of wearing the national team jersey. The dream was not mine alone-it was also my father's dream."

Jishan began full-fledged training at the age of 12 and was named the best player at the divisional level in the Under-14 team. In the last National Cricket League, he made headlines by scoring 281 runs in seven matches at a striking rate of 158.76. He hit a century off just 52 balls in the opening match against Dhaka, smashing 4 fours and 10 sixes.

This year, Jishan played for Durbar Rajshahi in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and is emerging as a promising power hitter. "I have liked power hitting from the start of my career. Playing this way gives me joy, and it puts pressure on the bowlers," he said. "I especially enjoy playing pull shots and want to make that my trademark. Liton Das and Rohit Sharma are my current favourites."

Jishan's father, Jahangir Alam-currently the batting coach of the BCB Under-15 team-has played a vital role in shaping his son's career. "Osmani Municipal Stadium is near our house. Jishan used to accompany me to the field and showed great interest from a young age," said Jahangir. "Even during his SSC exams, he chose to play in the U-19 World Cup, which shows his dedication."

They often review match footage together, analysing mistakes to help Jishan improve. "He's progressing because of his own efforts," Jahangir added.

Jishan credits his father for his achievements. "He has worked tirelessly for me. Now it's his dream to see me in the national team, and my only goal is to fulfill that dream," he said.
