Germany says ICJ ruling 'important milestone' for climate protection

BERLIN, July 24, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Germany on Thursday welcomed a ruling by the world's highest court that states are obliged to tackle climate change and failure to do so could open the door to reparations.

The International Court of Justice had confirmed that "climate protection is the duty of all states", the foreign ministry wrote on X, describing the ruling as an "important milestone".
