DHAKA, Sept 13, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today expressed deep shock at the death of eminent folk singer Farida Parveen.

In a condolence message, the Chief Adviser said that although Farida Parveen used to perform Nazrul Sangeet, patriotic and other songs, she was best known to her audience as the “Queen of Lalon Geeti”.

For five decades, her voice carried the timeless songs of Lalon Shah to people’s hearts, taking “our underlying philosophy of our culture and meaning of life to a new height,” he said.

“Despite various adversities, Farida Parveen did not stay away from singing. Her passion for music has inspired generations after generations,” Professor Yunus said.

The Ekushey Padak-winning singer’s contributions to the music arena of Bangladesh will remain ever memorable and will continue to nurture fresh thoughts and creativity in the country’s cultural sphere, he added.

The Chief Adviser prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Farida Parveen breathed her last at a city hospital tonight at the age of 71.
