South Korea says will 'work closely' with new Japan PM

SEOUL, Oct 21, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - South Korea pledged on Tuesday to "work closely" with Japan's Sanae Takaichi, a China hawk and social conservative who has just become the country's first woman prime minister.

"Our government will continue to work closely with Japan's new cabinet to maintain the positive momentum in bilateral ties," foreign ministry spokesman Lee Jae-woong told reporters.
