BOGURA, Jan 27, 2026 (BSS) – Ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls, candidates from different political parties contesting the Bogura-2 (Shibganj) constituency have pledged to ensure public safety and accelerating the pace of development.
The constituency that encompasses Shibganj Upazila has a total of 342,155 voters including 170,653 female and five voters from the third gender.
Seven candidates are contesting for the parliamentary seat in the upcoming election:
Among them, Mir Shahe Alam of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is contesting with ‘Daner Shish’ (Sheaf of Paddy) symbol while Maulana Shahadatuzzaman of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with ‘Daripalla’ (weighing Scale) symbol, Shariful Islam Jinnah of the Jatiya Party with ‘Langol’ (Plough) symbol, Jamal Uddin of Islami Andolon Bangladesh with ‘Hat Pakha’ (Hand Fan) symbol, Selim Sarker of Gonodhikar Parishad with Truck symbol, and two independent candidates—President of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna with Kettle symbol and Rezaul Karim Talu with ‘Shiri’ (Staircase) symbol.
There is widespread allegation that the area has been deprived of desired development over the past 17 years due to political reasons.
Rezaul Karim Talu has spoken about the needs of ordinary people rising above party politics.
He discussed various election-related issues in an exclusive interview with Kalam Azad, Bogura district correspondent of the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS). Here is the excerpt of the interview:
BSS: What are your election pledges for your local voters?
Rezaul Karim Talu: My goal is to ensure a safe life, justice, and basic civic facilities for every person in Shibganj. I want to create employment opportunities through practical and need-based development in the agriculture, education, and health sectors.
BSS: What instructions have you given your leaders and activists regarding compliance with the election code of conduct?
Rezaul Karim Talu: As an independent candidate, I have been following all related laws and the code of conduct of the Election Commission from the very beginning. Supporters have also been clearly instructed to campaign peacefully and decently and to avoid creating any disorder.
BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?
Rezaul Karim Talu: I believe that on the matters of national importance, the people’s opinion should be final. Ensuring an environment where people can freely express their views in a referendum, which is the most important thing.
BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming parliamentary election?
Rezaul Karim Talu: I expect a free, fair, and acceptable election. If people can vote without fear, their verdict will be reflected. Whatever that verdict may be, I will accept it.
