TANGAIL, Feb 3, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Tangail-8 constituency Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan has vowed to work sincerely to build Basail and Sakhipur as safer places for their residents and take steps to eliminate unemployment.

“If I am elected in the upcoming parliamentary polls, I will work to develop two upazilas-Basail and Sakhipur as the safer places for its inhabitants along with improving the quality of life of the locals through eliminating unemployment,” he said.

Azam Khan made the commitment in an interviewed with BSS Tangail district correspondent Mohiuddin Suman here recently.

In the interview, the BNP nominee talked about his expectations and visions for the people of his constituency if he is elected in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls slated for February 12.

BSS: What is your election promises to the voters of your area?

Ahmed Azam Khan: After 18 long years, a festive atmosphere has been created among the voters centring a fair and impartial election. The previous Awami fascist government destroyed the country's independence, sovereignty and democracy. Now it is the time to restore democracy through holding a free, fair and peaceful election. Therefore, in the coming days, we want to build a corruption-free and orderly Bangladesh under the leadership of our Chairman Tarique Rahman. We hope that the current interim government will give us the gift of a fair and impartial election.
My election promise is to implement the 31-point plan to repair the state structure announced by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. I will actively work to develop two upazilas- Basail and Sakhipur, as safer places for its residents. Along with improving the quality of life of the locals, I want to construct bridges, culverts and roads. I will try to fulfil the expectations of the voters by taking pragmatic steps to eliminate unemployment in the area.

BSS: What are your instructions to leaders and workers to follow the electoral code of conduct?

Ahmed Azam Khan: The Election Commission's code of conduct must be followed. I have provided necessary guidelines to all leaders and activists of my party to follow the electoral code of conduct. However, the administration must apply this law equally to all candidates. Through this election, the people will regain the full form of democracy through fair and impartial elections.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?

Ahmed Azam Khan: Our position has been against fascism for many years. The people will decide whether they will vote 'Yes' or 'No'. The 31-point reform proposal given by our chairman Tarique Rahman has mentioned the necessary changes. We are seeking votes for the "sheaf of paddy" symbol in the national elections, and we are in favour of 'Yes' in the referendum.

BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming elections?

Ahmed Azam Khan: The people of the country expect a free, fair and impartial election on February 12 because they could not vote in the past 2014, 2018 and 2024. This time, the people have got their right to vote back. Voters are also looking forward to voting for their preferred candidate in a festive atmosphere. So, in order to build a prosperous Bangladesh and a liberal democratic Bangladesh, voters will bring BNP to power by voting with the sheaf of paddy, InshaAllah.
